      Week Two Grades

Welcome to week two questions and grades as the Redskins posted an impressive performance against the Jaguars. The 41-10 victory brought elation to the team, coaches, and fans after a rough debut for Jay Gruden and a new offensive system. Feel free to offer your own grades, opinions, suggestions, and ideas. Too, we have some questions to close out this second week of action.

Let’s take a look at the grades.

      Quarterback:
Robert Griffin, III got off to a great start, but an ankle injury quickly brought the stadium to a stunned silence. Kirk Cousins came in and the offense continued to move the ball. Both quarterbacks played smart and with poise. A couple of sacks can be attributed to holding the ball too long.
      Grade: A-

      Running Backs:
The running game was solid once again as all three backs provided a good showing. Having excellent depth at the position affords the Redskins with several options. Silas Redd impressed with his first career touchdown.
      Grade: A+

      Wide Receivers:
What’s not to like? A talented wideout goes down and the team continues move the chains. Ryan Grant is the real deal and Andre Roberts is now looking like a huge steal in free agency. Having Pierre Garcon double-teamed allowed other receivers to step up and did so with authority.
      Grade: A+

      Tight Ends:
Last week, this position was non-existent and did not contribute anything of note. The blocking was atrocious and Jordan Reed had another serious injury. Fast forward one week and Niles Paul reversed his fortunes as he quickly went from zero to hero – albeit with one catchable pass dropped. Logan Paulsen provided solid blocking.
      Grade: A-

      Offensive Line:
This unit did a fine job overall, but did have some breakdowns in the passing game on the right side. However, it was vastly improved from the previous week and the running game support was good.
      Grade: B

      Defensive Line:
Ten sacks. Repeating, ten sacks. Would you like to read that again? Ok, ten sacks. The line was a terror to the opposing offense and opened up rushing lanes to the quarterback. They shut down the running game.
      Grade: A+

      Linebackers:
This group is arguably the best linebacking corps in the NFL today. From Ryan Kerrigan’s four sacks to the ball-hawking skills of Keenan Robinson, Perry Riley, Brian Orakpo, and Trent Murphy, this unit is bringing the pain to opponents. Sunday was no exception.
      Grade: A+

      Cornerbacks:
The corners were good, but were burned a bit at times. DeAngelo Hall gave up a sure long touchdown until fate intervened. David Amerson played another solid game as he takes steps toward becoming a shutdown corner. E.J. Biggers and Bashaud Breeland continued to play well in nickel formations.
      Grade: B-

      Safeties:
Night and day. First, the day. Ryan Clark is still a beast who demonstrates great techniques. With his solid contributions and veteran leadership, the free safety position is in good hands. In a limted role, Trenton Robinson was fantastic. Now, the night. Bacarri Rambo should be waived this week. Brandon Meriweather returns and Duke Ihenacho is going to expand his role on the defense. Rambo has been given many opportunities and at the very least, he should be gone or on the practice squad.
      Grade: B

      Special Teams:
A complete turnaround in just one week. Perfection on field goals. Three kickoffs went for touchbacks and returns were of no real consequence. Tress Way’s punts continue to impress. Andre Roberts had great day of returns. In other words, the special teams were – special.
      Grade: A+

      Coaching:
You can’t argue with the results. After two weeks, the defense is amongst the best in the league. Jim Haslett deserves all the kudos and accolades that should be coming his way. Jay Gruden’s offense was clicking and continued to pile on the points after losing key players to injury. Special teams made a great 180 degree turn from the previous week.
      Grade: A

Week two passes into the history books. How would you grade each position and the coaching staff? What are you looking for in the coming week against the Eagles? Does the right side of the offensive line continue to occupy your concerns? Is it time for Bacarri Rambo to go?

      See you again next week.

      Hail to the Redskins!
