Burner’s Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions, 2019

Greetings from BBQ to everyone here at BGO. We hope you will have a good week. Happy Canada Day a bit late and Happy 4th of July a bit early. Hello to everyone on social media. We’d love to have you as a member here and become part of the family.

OTAs, mini-camp, rookie camp, and the draft have passed into the history books. Training camp will be here in three weeks. We’ll continue to cover it all and give everyone at BGO the best coverage possible.

BBQ continues our off-season evaluations and today we will take a look at the offensive tackles. Feel free to scroll back in this off-season blog and see what we have said about free agency, the draft, and take a look at what you’re fellow Redskins fans think of the team transactions over the last several months. BBQ will continue to take a look at each position and provide analysis over the next few weeks. Feel free to offer your own analysis as we go along.

      - Days until Training Camp: 23
      - Days until the first preseason game: 37
      - Days until the Regular Season Opener (Eagles): 68
      - Days until the Cowboys game: 75
      - Days until the Giants game: 96

      Let’s get right to it!

      Offensive Tackles:

      Trent Williams
We have heard the reports. We have heard the rumors. We have seen the media responses. We have seen the hysteria. Friends and neighbors, Trent Williams will not be released or traded to another team. He is a bit older and has some aging parts, but number 71 is still one of the best tackles in the league. Dr. Henry “Indiana” Jones, Jr. said it best – “It’s not the years honey, it’s the mileage”. Like Indiana Jones, Trent Williams simply keeps on going and is relentless. Continue to enjoy the ride and the Hall of Fame career of TW71. We’re getting closer to the end, but the final chapter is not here at this time.

      Morgan Moses
He is a warrior, but the 2018 season proved to be a frustrating one for the massive right tackle. Moses had some issues in the first half of the season with silly penalties and something of an inability to keep his emotions in check during the game. In the latter half of the season, he performed like a seasoned veteran and limited his mistakes from the early games. As injuries mounted on the offensive line, Moses soldiered on and became a role model for younger linemen. If he can remain healthy, look for Moses to have a very solid season.

Geron Christian, Ereck Flowers, Timon Parris
At this juncture, it is difficult to know who will be the backup swing tackle. Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. Flip a coin. Rock, paper, scissors. A Ouija board. The answers will come in training camp or the preseason and Christian, Flowers, and Parris will audition for the role. At this time, coaches hope Christian will take a significant step forward in his second year. The coaches also hope Flowers will turn his career around. Parris needs to show improvement as well. It will be an interesting battle.

      Others
Blake Hance and Brian Wallace possess the prototypical size for NFL tackles, but lack the experience at this time. Both of them could be heading to the practice squad. Tony Bergstrom could finally be on the outside and looking in. He will need an exceptional camp to make it another year.

There is our latest look at roster position evaluations for this off-season. We will feature another position later this week.
