  1. He's NOT What We Thought He Was. Or Is He?

A few months ago, I wrote about hope.

The birth of a new season of Redskins Football always seems to engender optimism within. For me, anyway. This year was no different. We had a new coach, a guaranteed Hall of Fame coach, no less. Yes, we had problems, but every team has problems. Mike Shanahan was going to change the culture of the team, dammit! I think we all hoped for a playoff spot, but more realistically, considering the disaster that was 2009, thought a 3-4 game improvement ...

    The Stalwart

Solid. Dependable. Courageous. Strongly built. Sturdy. Robust. Brave. Valiant.
    Firm.Steadfast. Uncompromising.

These words define the meaning of the word ‘stalwart’.

And they also define my favorite Washington Redskin, the fierce and passionate London Fletcher.

Forget Brett Favre. If you want to celebrate a player truly worthy of the title NFL Iron Man, London Fletcher is that guy. Favre has accomplished the amazing, nothing can diminish his record-breaking ...

    Blognosticator - Burgundy Burner

In September, the humble blognosticator for this week was asked to submit an entry for week fourteen and yours truly considered it an honor to be a part of what has become an incredible display of talent at BGO. I didn't mark a calendar or count the days until this week arrived, but I was genuinely excited to have such a unique opportunity. Suddenly, on Friday, I went from feeling well to having a bad cold. It's the kind of cold that is attacking ...

  4. Information

I watched the movie Sneakers with my 10 and 13 year olds last Friday. Terrific movie with Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier, Dan Akroyd, River Phoenix, David Straitharn, Ben Kingsley, Mary McDonnell and James Earl Jones, among others. Fun, ensemble cast, ahead of its time, technologically, and just a darn good popcorn flick. The kids even liked it.

Anyway, at the end of the movie, with a gun pointed at Robert Redford, Ben Kingsley says, "There's a war out there old friend, ...

    The Legacy of Clinton Portis

The smart money in Washington, D.C. agrees on only one thing when it comes to their Redskins – we’ve likely seen the last of running back Clinton Portis in burgundy and gold. After missing most of the 2010 season with a severe groin tear, Portis was placed on injured reserve after suffering an abdominal injury in the Redskins critical win against the Titans.

    Done for the year. Again.

Given that his latest season-ending injury marks the third time in five years that ...

    Blognosticator - Anne the Fan

If you’re like me, you spend a good part of your Wednesday evenings checking out BGO to see who the resident prognosticator is for the week. So I imagine that more than a few of you clicked on this week’s installment of Blognostications and thought “by Anne the … wait, what? Who?” Some of you may remember me from “that other board” as an infrequent poster who occasionally emerged from the shadows to insult fans of other teams – the message board equivalent ...

  7. Is It Time?

You know what the best thing is about movies? The journey. Think about it. When's the last time you were completely Kaizer Sose'd at the end of a movie? Usual Suspects aside.

When's the last time you had no earthly idea what was going to happen next? Inception? Maybe? Memento? There are precious few movies anymore that a) leave you guessing until the end, and b) leave you completely confused about what is really going on until the end.

    And that's usually OK. ...

  8. Burner's Burning Questions - Week Twelve

Which team will show up on Sunday? This season continues to be full of surprises and frustrations. On to the questions.

    1. Which team will show up against Minnesota indeed? The team that beat some heavyweights or the team that loses to bottom dwellers?

Answer: For now, Minnesota is a bottom dweller. But they are better than the record suggests and a coaching change could bring a spark for them. We'll see what transpires on the football field.

  9. Why do we Care?

Why do we care so much? How is it that when someone I never met, and had precious little chance of meeting, passed away unexpectedly, it affected me for days? How is it that three years later, it still affects me?

I have such strong memories of Sean Taylor flying around the field, wreaking havoc, just playing like the meast he was. But my enduring memory will be when I got online at my desk in my office and saw that he passed the night before.

    Just shocked. ...

  10. Nerd Alert (Part Deux)

Last time I did this, we looked at the Redskins' O-line, today, horror of horrors, we are going to look at the D-line. It ain't pretty, kids. Better put the wife and kids to bed first...

Most, if not all of these stats are courtesy of Footballoutsiders.com.

Let's look at RB yards gained first. On average, we suck. 5.04 ypc, worst in the NFL. Only the Colts at 5.01 are above 5 ypc also. The leader in the NFL (also the only team under 3 ypc)? Pitt, at 2.92 ypc. ...
