  1. The rants and ravings of Aston Gambino

    Campbell in the Shotgun

    Going into Week 1, Jason Campbell was under a lot of pressure. His excuses were running out, as was his contract, so we as a fan base were eager to see him finally step up and be the franchise quarterback that we all hope he can be. Unfortunately, the result was same uninspiring, average, awkward performance we've grown to expect from Campbell.

    His stat line wasn't too bad (19/26 for 211 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT), and actually much better than it was last year in this same scenario. ...

    Giants Game - Random Observations

    Just a few quick hit thoughts about the game. These are the things that stand out in my mind after watching it live and then reviewing parts on Tivo when I could drag myself away from the Bears/Packers tilt last night (at least Cutler played a worse game than Campbell yesterday).

    • While it appears the sky is falling (and in many ways it feels like it to my heart), it is important to remember that the Meadowlands has always been a house of horrors for the Skins. We got beat by a

    Thoughts on the Season

    So here it is…the real thing. Thursday night it started all over again, with the Steelers and the Titans in prime time, and for this fan it only gets better from there. If Thursday was the real thing then 4:15 today in the New Jersey Swamp will be even better than the real thing (apologies to U2…I just like the phrase).

    Today we start to answer the questions, find out about the future and get a glimpse behind the curtain that came down over Redskins Park after the lose to the 49ers ...

    Blognostications

    It’s the fool’s season. Time to make a wish, throw a dart, say a prayer, make a human sacrifice, consult the Gods.

    It’s the start of the 2009 NFL season and it’s prediction time.

    And certainly, this fool is going to make a prediction. But not before a thoughtful, cerebral, academic pause. Because, really, who the hell do I think I am? What precise, educated, and informed knowledge leads me to a conclusion others should pay more than a passing attention to? Yes – ...

    Six...Maybe

    Eighty guys started this process.

    80.

    When the dust settles only 53 will be left on the active roster. That is a one-third attrition rate, for those of you keeping score at home.

    That’s a lot of dross to pour off the top.

    One out of three will go home. Maybe it is just me but that sounds big. Real big. Perhaps I am prejudiced because I have some idea in human terms what it is like to lose a third of your coworkers in a month. The tech ...

    Philthy

    I must be mad. Out of touch. An anachronism. Hell – I’m certain of it.

    I don’t believe Michael Vick was wrong. I don’t believe he was ‘misguided’. He wasn’t mislead by his ‘cultural upbringing’. Michael Vick wasn’t immature or confused. He didn’t use ‘bad judgment’, or make some ‘bad decisions’.

    Michael Vick was evil.

    Yep. The ‘E’ word. You know what evil is, right? Raping a woman? Evil. Bludgeoning someone weaker than you and taking something from ...

  7. Redskins talk and other things!!!!

    Training Camp (Defense)

    The temperature was 70 degrees and the weather was drizzly and the grounds were soaked but for an August day in the Summer in the DMV the alternative would be 90 degrees. I will take the rain and make the best of my time.

    The Defense for the Redskins will be a force in 2009 from the Defenive line which appears to be vastly improved with the additions of Haynseworth and the return of Phillip Daniels what was deemed a weakness last season will perform a complete 180 from last season. ...

    Old Faces

    This time of year there are fans all over the world waiting anxiously for training camps to begin in 32 cities across our land. Most, if not all of that attention is focused on the new faces their team as brought in to turn around the failure of last year, failure that is unless you are a fan of the Sons of Pittsburgh.

    Some of those faces were stars on Saturdays last fall and are not just new to the team but new to the pro game itself. A few of those faces are old hands in the NFL ...

    The Agonizing Art of Alchemy

    This week, NFL training camps around America open, ushering in another year of glorious fan optimism and breathless promise.

    This will be the year *insert hapless mediocre franchise name here* proves everyone wrong and takes the NFL by storm. Miracles really are possible. The wisdom of all of those perplexing front office moves in the off-season will soon be revealed.

    For NFL fans, hope doesn’t just spring eternal, it gushes forth like a Brooklyn fire hydrant opened ...

  10. The rants and ravings of Aston Gambino

    'Twas The Night Before Training Camp

    'Twas the night before training camp, when all through the land,
    Not a player was clubbing, except maybe PacMan;

    The helmets were hung in the clubhouse with care,
    In hopes that the season soon would be there;

    The players were nestled all snug in their beds,
    While visions of Lombardi danced in their heads;

    And coach and his flattop, all gelled up and damp,
    Had better hunker down for a long summer's camp;

    And out ...
