Embracing a burgundy and gold obsession of 40+ years.
My off-beat look at the trials, tribulations, and triumphs
inherent in the world of a lifelong Redskins fan.

    The Turn Around

It’s got to happen at some point, right? I mean, as a long-suffering fan of these Washington Redskins, I cling desperately to the belief that at some point my beloved franchise will emerge from the dark tunnel of misery into the glorious light again.

Whether by design, luck, or just sheer statistical probability, at some point the Redskins are going to be good again. Not just for a 6-game stretch, or ...

Mr. Snyder - Your Rude Awakening is STILL Calling ...

Below is a blog I wrote on another website - 13 years ago. Sadly, it remains timely...

I've been a Daniel Snyder supporter/apologist for a long time. In actuality, I'd characterize it less as support than grudging belief that ultimately his heart and money were in the right place. In other words, not believing Snyder was Satan incarnate = support. I based my support on a couple of things:

Snyder was a lifelong Redskins fan. I knew about his Pat Fischer crush, ...

    The Perfect Storm

Last night’s no show on national TV against a hated rival was a particularly rough one to watch.

The seas were angry last night my friends. The waves were 50 feet high, our little boat showed it was full of holes, not up to the beating of the harsh and unforgiving waters. And in the end, even George Clooney died.

Contrary to popular belief, the current Redskins almost never go out and flat out suck or lay an egg. They fight, they compete, and more often than not are ...

    The Calm Down Bus

Well, after a few days to absorb the reality that we have the Rent-A-Starter plan in full effect at QB, one that could extend even into the 2018 season, I have decided to take a deep breath. Reading takes from less emotional rational types like Bulldog, Om, and Miles Monroe I recognize that this is and likely will continue to be par for the course for our Redskins and that getting ones panties in a wad is of no tangible benefit.

With any controversy, it is human nature to put ...

    The Quan

I know, I know. Lifes not fair. You never promised me a rose garden. Suck it up buttercup.

If anyone gets it, its the son of the Great Santini. Raised by a 64 Marine Colonel, I want was a phrase I quickly learned to deftly avoid.

    But want I do.

And when it comes to my beloved Burgundy and Gold, the wish list is long and enduring.

I want Kirk Cousins signed to a long-term deal. Pay the man.
I want Jay Gruden to become a ...

    By Hook or By Crook...

    The Redskins are winning.

How? No one really knows. The offense scores in bunches. The offense implodes in the red zone. The defense is a sieve. The defense is opportunistic. The play calling is daring. The play calling is predictable. Special teams is infallible. Special teams nearly costs us a win.

Rooting for this team is like calling an escort service in Bangkok squinting your ...

    Trump Cards

I think we can all agree on one thing in this incredibly divisive Presidential election cycle.

Its time to make the Redskins great again!

And its going to happenbelieve me. Its going to be huuuuge. Were going to win so much, youll get sick of winning.

I know many Redskins fans bemoaned the fact that we didnt build a wall in this years NFL draft. The center of our dreams was tantalizingly within reach. Many of us wanted the B&G to take big ugly ...

    Again

    Yes. I liked that.

The 2015 Redskins season was a gift from the Gods. In 2012, Redskins fans dreamt theyd finally hit pay dirt and found a franchise QB after decades of hapless floundering under center. If that werent enough to bring joy to the miserable masses, the Skins had lucked into a 6th round RB gem in Alfred Morris.

If youd tried to tell any of us what would transpire after that magical 2012 season, we literally wouldve thought you were crazy, hopped up ...

    Whistling Past the Graveyard

Ive noted a strange adaptive strategy employed by war-torn and battle-scarred Redskins fans for most of the past 20 years. Whistling Past the Graveyard. Belief is a risky proposition for NFL fans, particularly fans of one of the most volatile, topsy-turvy franchises ever, one thats had a parade of head coaches, coordinators, front office staff, and supposed saviors that rivals Kevin Bacon connections.

With belief comes possibility. Occasionally, fans whove closed their eyes, ...

    Im not Russian.

    I dont speak Russian.

I dont know any Russians. Hell I dont even particularly care for vodka.

World War 3 is not here, but you wouldnt know it talking to Washington Redskins fans, locked in mortal combat, even on the heels of an improbable greatest comeback in franchise history win.

    You all know what ...
