REDSKINS SELECT JEREMY JARMON IN THIRD ROUND OF SUPPLEMENTAL DRAFT

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA – The Washington Redskins selected defensive end Jeremy Jarmon in the third round of the 2009 Supplemental Draft, held earlier this afternoon.

The Redskins used their third-round choice in the 2010 NFL Draft to pick the 6-foot-3, 277-pound Jarmon, making him the first supplemental draft choice in franchise history.

“First and foremost, he’s a quality person who has already graduated.” Redskins Executive Vice President of Football Operations Vinny Cerrato said. “We watched him a lot on film and went to his workout last week. He has the size, strength and athleticism that we like at the position and he’ll have the opportunity to learn from veterans like Phillip Daniels and Renaldo Wynn.”

Jarmon started 31-of-39 career games at the University of Kentucky, finishing third in school history with 17.5 career sacks. Following his sophomore season in 2007, Jarmon earned All-Southeastern Conference second-team honors from the league’s coaches and was a first-team selection by Rivals.com.

While playing in 13 games that season, Jarmon registered a team-high nine sacks, which was the fourth-highest total in the nation. He also finished fourth on the Wildcats with 62 tackles, including 13.5 stops for loss, and was awarded a share of the team’s most outstanding defensive player award.

“As a player, we liked his production,” Redskins Director of Player Personnel Scott Campbell said. “He’s good against the run and can rush the passer. He’s young, only 21 years old, with a lot of playing experience. After meeting him and spending time with him, it is easy to see he is a quality person with good upside and all the qualities we look for. Everyone at the school spoke very highly of him – from the coaches to the training staff to the strength staff, they all had positive things to say.”

Jarmon was born on Nov. 20, 1987, in Collierville, Tenn., and attended Houston High School in Germantown, Tenn.
