can you say he cemented the right to start next week against the rams?

We used to have a coach here who often said that availability is just as important as talent.
Helu and Royster may have talent but the needle rests near "E" in the availability department.
IMO, Morris has both.

A week into last season both Helu and Royster had solid availability too, Diesel. Just sayin'.
And yeah, Mike, I will give you making him the starter this next week against the Rams. He didn't do anything to loose the starting job as far as I am concerned. All I am saying is I didn't see anything special about what he did yesterday.

I'm just ecstatic that I can read a discussion about the merits of our starting running back after a pretty solid effort in a win against the Saints on the road with a rookie qb.
Times are indeed a changing'.

That's why Helu and Royster limped into the offseason and both limped through camp this season..........
Strange......

our other backs from last season have had durability issues. Morris may be a guy that we can ride for the inside game and then work Helu in on third down and passing downs as an 'umbrella' back to utilize his speed.

Don't get hung up on the word 'cements.' That's the reporter's word not the coach's. I just read it as he earned the right to start the next game, nothing more.
Directly from Shanahan's mouth:

Or like you mentioned, maybe he’s not playing well, maybe he doesn’t have a hot hand, but right now, what I’ve seen in preseason and what I’ve seen through the first game, he will be our starting running back. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have a lot of belief in [Roy] Helu [Jr.] or [Evan] Royster.

He'll start and play whomever he thinks has the hot hand or will do the best. Nobody is locked in.

Let's see,
Tough down hill runner
Takes multiple hits to take him to the ground
Turns loss/no gain into positive yardage
Scored 2 touchdowns (who gives a flying **** how long the runs were)
0 fumbles
All in his 1st game, after being a long shot to even make an NFL roster
What a bum. He's stealing carries from Banks.
Cut his ass.
