Odds, Ends and a Last Hail

Been a long time since this place got usedÖ Too long. I had a hell of a time cleaning the cobwebs out so I could move back in today. And donít even get me started about the dust. Iíll be sneezing for weeks.

But itís clean now and ready for use. Hopefully it will be regular use too.

I donít really have anything big for this first week, just a few quick hitters of varying importance.
So, Year 1 of the Gruden Era begins officially on Sunday. Good times.

Slow Down Chicken Little

Despite the fact that it is hot enough here to get your steak done medium rare right off the hoof out in the field across the street from my place, I have been spending a fair amount of time outside this week. You see, I have been watching the sky. No, I am all that interested in clouds. Not a weather bug and there have not been any wild storms to view either.

Matters of the Heart

First, let us be clear about something. I am not a doctor, nor did I ever play one on TV. I also didnít sleep in a Holiday Inn last night. What I do seem to have is more than 2 brain cells to rub together, which appears to be more than we can say for most sports reporters.

However, even with my limited medical knowledge, I know that the concussion we all saw Griff sustain on Sunday had nothing to do with the fact that at 6-2 and 218 he is not as big as Newton and Luck. This fact,

Creativity Wanted, Apply Within

I have always believed that coaches coach and players play and I work hard to keep that in mind as I am watching football games. I try to look the play call, or what I think is the play call, and grade what I see accordingly.

This view has afforded me the option to defend either players or coaches at times when few others will. It also allows me to throw either under the bus.

And this week I am throwing Jim Haslett under the biggest damn bus I can find.
