As the Redskins tip-toe towards the start of perhaps their most important season in 20 years, there’s plenty of hype to wallow in. The storyline for today’s Redskins-Colts matchup? It’s an epic preseason clash between two budding stars, the 1st and 2nd picks of the 2012 NFL Draft, Robert Griffin and Andrew Luck. It’s also the home debut for RG3 and his first quasi-official performance on the turf at Fed Ex Field in front of his already adoring fans.

But all of that’s relative nonsense....

If I’m being honest, given the opportunity, I might even have squirted a couple packets...

In today’s NFL, it’s all about the tangibles.

Talent trumps everything. At least that’s what we’re led to believe. Stockpiling your team with the best athletes in the Universe is the key to winning. Player 40 times, size, strength, and speed fuel obsession over draft position as teams jockey to select the latest ‘prototypical’ physical beast to help take them to the Promised Land.

If the NFL were a popular bar, we’d call it a ‘meat market’ based on the lascivious scrutiny...

’Citing “several people familiar with the Redskins’ thinking,” the Washington Post reported Wednesday morning that Mike Shanahan’s team will make an aggressive bid to sign quarterback Peyton Manning after he’s released by the Colts.’

Seeing the Colts part ways with an apparently near-healthy face-of-the-franchise Manning is downright surreal. But it’s a topsy-turvy, crazy, wacky, mixed-up NFL world...
