The Picks: Cowboys vs. Giants
http://www.nbcdfw.com/blogs/blue-star/The-Picks-Cowboys-vs-Giants-59752037.html

It’s that time of week. Time to man up and make your pick for Sunday’s game. Get it right, and you’ll be able to gloat about it to Madge in Payroll. Get it wrong, and you’ll call your bookie in a tizzy, begging him to give you more time, explaining to him that your grandma’s sudden hip replacement surgery left you in a tight spot. YOU’RE GOOD FOR IT, YOU SWEAR! Here are our picks, plus picks from across the rest of the media.

Scott Crisp: 24-20, Cowboys. “If the offensive line can keep him upright, Romo should give Dallas a shot to win.”

Josh Alper: Cowboys, 23-20.

Bill Simmons: Giants.

Peter King: Cowboys 30, Giants 20. “The ascension of Tony Romo continues with a three-TD-pass day.” Ascension? Was Romo a little-known quantity up until now?

51% Of SI Users: Giants.

All Ten ESPN Experts: An even 50/50 split. But Golic picking the Giants tips the karma scale in favor of Dallas. Ever listen to Mike and Mike do their idiotic Stone Cold Lead Pipe Lock of the Week thing, where Greenberg goes into a higher voice for no reason? Agony.

Michael Silver: Cowboys.

53% Of Yahoo! Users: Giants.

Pete Prisco (CBS): Cowboys.

Andy (Cowboys fan I know): Cowboys 5,671, Giants 7. (He would like to note that the Giants score the TD in garbage time)

FanHouse: Cowboys.

Index Card I Threw Up In The Air With The Name Of Each Team On Either Side, Seeing Which Team Would Land Face Up: Giants.
Me: This is an impossible game to pick. The Giants, top to bottom, have the better roster and better coaching. But the Cowboys will have the excitement of the new stadium and the roar of 100,000 plus on their side. And, they looked pretty solid last week against a Bucs team that was game for a half. Offensively, the Cowboys are the more explosive team (With an Exploding Quotient of 56.78).

One thing is for sure: if the Cowboys win this game, they announce to Philly and New York that the NFC East is a three-team race. I’ll even go so far as to say that a win Sunday Night proves this is a 10-win team. But I don’t think they win. I think the Giants will be too much for Dallas to handle along the line of scrimmage going either way. Giants 34, Cowboys 30. It’s gonna be a good one. I bet the over.

Yours in the comments. Get ready, folks. JerryWorld is, at long last, ready for its closeup.

And when the pukes are eliminated at home, what will the prognosticators say?

I'm on the Giants. I wasn't until I saw their receivers step against the Skins but if any secondary in the NFC East can tackle worse than ours it is that of the Cowboys. Romo won't have the time he had against Tampa and the Giants secondary won't make the massive coverage mistakes that Tampa made which allowed for those 3 big plays Dallas got.

On the flip side I don't see the Cowboys getting any more pressure on Manning than the Skins did and even worse is that NY should be able to run on them. Dallas has to be worried about that. Tampa gashed them for 174 on 31 attempts (5.6 per carry). Don't you think Jacobs and Bradshaw are giddy just thinking about that?

Add to it the pressure Jerry has put the team to win the opener in his new temple and I can't help but wonder if the Cowboys won't just implode under the pressure.

Giants 31 - Cowboys 17

Neo, I'm going to take a bit of a different perspective on this. I'm going to use how the Giants did against the Skins as a baseline. If everyone who has talked about how insipid, unimaginative, mistake-ridden, and "so-like-the-second-half-of-last-season" the Skins played is right-then what the hell was wrong with New York? Why didn't they blow the Skins out by three tds at least? They were in the Meadowlands-a no-mans-land for anybody playing 'em.

As I mentioned in another post there are, in my view, a far greater number of tiny things operating in a game than it's possible to selectively pick out and measure as indicators of team performance. I'm going with Dallas on this one, first they're at home in there new "showcase" stadium, and second-this is kind of, I guess odd, but if the Giants clobber the Cowboys-that vindicates the feelings of those that the Skins did do a better job against them than was visible or perceived. On the other hand if the Cowboys win, especially if it's decisive, there is obviously a weakness the Giants have that could be exploited the next time the Skins play them. At FedEx this time.

I'm thinking that though the pukes' secondary is very suspect, the Giants should be able to run at will.

The pukes d-line is missing Canty...he was a big body.

And that lb corps isn't spectacularly fast.

If Wade gambles on blitzes, the pukes are in for a long, long day.
