View Full Version : Colt Brennan - Make an Assessment!
With a single pre-season game to go, what's YOUR assessment of Colt Brennan?

I almost went with the last choice on smartassiness alone but I like you...lol

The kid has game, but even last year felt like one day the chances he takes would come back to bite him (us).
I wish Daniels had a greater body of work to compare to Brennan.
All the skills necessary. Not ready mentally. Will play somewhere in the NFL, but whether it's in DC will depend on Jim Zorn's assessment of Chase Daniel over the next 2 weeks.

I DID go with this choice cause I like HIM and You.
I would hate to know we had to depend on him tomorrow.
He just isn't ready IMHWO
I kinda dig you too. And if I didn't appreciate a good smartass (among others), I never would have made it an option :)

I'd say Meidt picks Chase, but Zorn picks Colt. So Colt wins the honor of 3rd place.

the last pre season game should be interesting
Colt does enough good things to keep him on the roster. He's not ready yet, but I do think he is more accurate than our #1.

Colt is a high risk/high reward player.
He'll make plays and wow you and he'll make plays that will kill you.
Skins win if not for the pick 6.....at minimum that was a 10 pt. swing.
This is where you hope Zorn can lower the risk and keep the reward, he makes the team this year and the Skins try to keep Daniel on the PS.

I can see the last sentence as a plausible and probably workable scenario-it runs the risk, of course, of somebody like Jacksonville or Chicago try to snatch Daniel up to shore up weak QB depth.
Daniel has definitely complicated things ... for me, despite the goal-line brain farts, Colt is still a guy I would like to see in burgundy and gold. If he needs an extra year or even two to hone his mental game, I'd very much like to see him get the chance ... because I think he has the potential to be special. I really do.
Thing is, I think Daniel has that chance too ... and I don't think he's going to need a lot of time. I think he's the real thing. If he comes out in the final preseason game and shows the same level of command as he did against Pittsburgh, I don't think he'd make it back to the practice squad. I think he'd be snatched up fast by someone who sees the same thing I do.
I'm approaching the Jaguars game with mixed feelings. I like both these guys and would hate to see either get away ... but I don't think the team will have the luxury of keeping both around.

I can't see a QB taking one of the PS spots.

Agreed. Depending on what happens against Jacksonville, I'd almost like to see Collins dumped, and Brennan/Daniel the Nos. 2 and 3.
Crazy? Absolutely. But it's a crazy world.
I think that they both could really be special.

The INTs don't bother me...but the errant, inaccurate throws do. The QB Brennan is starting to remind me the most of - Rex Grossman. He puts too much air under short to intermediate throws. Once teams get film on him, I fear they will pick his weaknesses apart, just like what happened to Grossman. That said, I voted the only reasonable choice...the jury's still out.
The INT's DO bother me. You absolutely can NOT throw INT's in the red zone. He looked VERY Favre-esque trying to thread the needle into tight coverage. The difference is that he doesn't have Favre's arm, even a 40 year old Favre. He also telegraphed both of those passes. After a year in the system, there is just no excuse for those kinds of mistakes. I would be VERY afraid to have to rely on him to actually play in a game this year. Not sure what Zorn will decide to do but dumping Collins in favor of the two youngsters would amount to professional suicide, unless Jason can make it through an entire year unscathed.
True Jimbo - but seriously - what do we expect? Kid's had a total of 4 or 5 quarters max to face real NFL competition in anything other than a scrimmage scenario. I've been a harsh critic, but you really can't base a decision on the kid's future based on that. Doesn't mean he'll necessarily stick around - at some point you've got to show growth. But lets not get carried away either. He's clearly pressing to 'make something happen' right now. If and when he ends up in a couple of real games, assuming he ever gets that chance (here or elsewhere), there's no telling what we might see once he calms down.
I like the kid, but I can't say I trust him any more than I do Daniels, at this point, and he's had a years head start. Of course, Chase needs to repeat his play this week, or it's Colt's job, easily.
It'd be nice if Thursday provides some definitive answers, but I doubt it will. Oh, how I long for the days when a hangnail would allow us to store one of these kids on IR for a year.
Since, if Campbell secures the job this season, Collins will be gone next year, and both of the kids could slug it out until one emerged victorious.
There is a mean side of me that thinks, I'll enjoy the meltdown if Colt is sent packing. Not because I don't like him, but because some of his, er um, "fans", are more irritating than a case of crabs. But in the end, I hope they both play extremely well, and I'll be thankful I'm not the one who has to choose.
Cutting Collins to keep both of the young guys would be too risky.
I somehow expect Colt to be hidden on the injured reserve list. ;)
No way! Impossible.
Yep. I heard it from a friend's babysitter's pizza delivery boy. He got a tweet on his twit.

This^. However, he's starting to remind me of Grossman in another way-injury prone. I'm starting to think he might develop into a legit starter one day but his inability to stay healthy might make it a moot point.
Still, I wonder if his injury would be serious enough to put him on injured reserve if he was the #1 or #2 rated QB?
I have my doubts on that front :)
I think the Redskins might be seriously gaming this.

That we were pulling a "Joe Gibbs" was my first thought too Boone. However, the talk of surgery made me think otherwise. I guess if he ends up having the hip surgery, that will be the final word. If he doesn't, we'll be left to wonder. ;)
