Last week was like a shot in the arm.

I want another shot of that drug!!!!

SKINS/PATS: ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?

I hear Tom Brady wears Partridge Family underwear.

A Quick slant to El for the first. Great recovery from the penalty. Cambell is looking pretty good

Blondie
08-28-09, 08:18 PM
OK.

I will admit that Jason is looking sharp so far.

As is Moss and Kelly.

Om
08-28-09, 08:19 PM
Okay ... so when did Jason Campbell start ducking his head a la Brett Favre when going downfield?

Blondie
08-28-09, 08:20 PM
From the 1!!!!!!!!!

Very good

08-28-09, 08:20 PM
Uh-oh, Pats make boo-boo.

stevenaa
08-28-09, 08:20 PM

stevenaa
08-28-09, 08:22 PM
Wohohohohohoho. A goal line push into the endzone. Out freaking standing. We overcame penalties and played aggressively. Most pleased with that series. Hard to ask for much more. Maybe sans penalties.

servumtuum
08-28-09, 08:23 PM
I gonna chalk the penalties up to nerves-good looking first series, especially for JC.

Boone
08-28-09, 08:24 PM
And Santana Moss :)

I'm ready to see some pressure from our D.

Boone
08-28-09, 08:29 PM
Hall got schooled on that play.

Blondie
08-28-09, 08:29 PM
OK

Brady looked very good there.

stevenaa
08-28-09, 08:30 PM
Ok. Let's see if the O can respond again. You want to beat the Pats. You better be prepared to flood the scoreboard.

Om
08-28-09, 08:31 PM
Hard to watch the D not really try to apply any heat, plus leave the corners matched up one on one playing so far off the ball. No way Blache approaches a real game that way.

Mr. Hall just got a little humility.

stevenaa
08-28-09, 08:31 PM
Rewound and watched again. Hall was right there but Moss had the inside. Tough to defend.

Nice to see WR's getting open. JC's got plenty to throw to tonight.

stevenaa
08-28-09, 08:36 PM
Blache needs to dial up some defense here.

Om
08-28-09, 08:38 PM
Agreed Boone. OL's been a revelation through 3 weeks on pass pro. The bomb to Moss needed just a little more air under it ... and props to Moss for laying out for it. Looks like these guys may be tired of hearing people like us ragging on 'em.

servumtuum
08-28-09, 08:39 PM
I do like the fact that the Skins are stretching the field out and being more... "daring" I guess is the word.

Blondie
08-28-09, 08:39 PM
Can you imagine having Moss and Moss together?

Wow

Om
08-28-09, 08:42 PM
If Smoot wants to save the histrionics for games that count, I won't mind. ;)

stevenaa
08-28-09, 08:42 PM
Good read by the D on that one.

08-28-09, 08:43 PM

Brady had all day on that td-Geez!

Om
08-28-09, 08:52 PM
The TD was all about Brady having all day to throw. He didn't have anyone within 3 yards of him and could have stood there another 3-4 seconds if he wanted to. Just can't imagine that happens in the regular season. No way Blache leaves the secondary that exposed.

IMHO, Montana was the superior quarterback.

But I admit, I think Brady's a colossal douche. Makes it hard for me to appreciate his achievements because I just want to kick him in the nuts every time he appears on my TV screen.

Om
08-28-09, 08:55 PM
Zorn definitely pulled in his horns offensively. Two basic off tackle plays and a slow developing 3rd and long. Maybe just trying to give the D a breather, but still. A clear change of pace from the first two drives. It's preseason again.

On the good news front ... special teams coverage has been money so far. Looks like D. Smith chewed some serious ass this week.

But why do that? I don't see the Pats doing that. If you're going to play your first team for a half, you ought to give em legit practice. Don't care for a close to the vest approach. Too many years of that flowing into the regular season.

Boone
08-28-09, 09:04 PM
I am not seeing anything this pre-season that leads me to believe we're close to being a playoff team. Could they look like a different team altogether come the regular season? Sure. And we have a very favorable schedule this year.

Still - we look pretty shaky at times.

Then again, we are playing the Patriots - even if it IS preseason :)

Om
08-28-09, 09:05 PM

I agree I'd rather see a more aggressive approach. Seems to me the Redskins have been this way since Marty S. showed up. Had a brief ride under Spurrier, who I'm not really sure understood there was a difference between the pre- and regular seasons, then back to uberconservative under Gibbs and now Zorn.

Just the way we do business, apparently.

Disagree it has much to do with carrying over to the real games. We just haven't been very good offensively period.

Om

Pretty dysfunctional looking.

Anyone have any theories on the difference between the first possession, and the last three?

Did the Patriots "adjust?" Did the Redskins use up any real scheming they had for this "game" and are now just working on looks and creating matchups to put on film? Do they just flat suck and the first drive was a mirage?

Which, to me, is all the reason more to get after it every chance you get. If you want to be the best, see what the best do and emulate it. The best don't lay down in Pre-season with the first teams playing.

He needs to get his butt up and back to the line after dropping the pass earlier.

Boone
08-28-09, 09:14 PM
Campbell's going to actually be banged up - in a frigging preseason game.

Wanna know why you play like it matters when your first team is in there, even IN the preseason? Because if you don't, you're going to get your QB beat up. Moss is taking a beating too.

I kinda feel like it's a bit of both. The Patriots are still are pretty elite team. We're not. I think if we're able to make something out of this drive, it'll give our guys a lot of confidence and will certainly speak to whether what we saw was a mirage or not.

Why would we take away the 70 yarder? We executed it.

Exactly-one thing the 'Skins are doing that I alluded to in another post is being more daring, more explosive and less predictable-keep the other team off-balance. Winning teams make big plays.

IMO, he did well with the big boys. I hope he sticks this year.

One thing I expect to see a lot of this year - our Defense making interceptions (and yeah, I started typing this before Laron got that one :) )

We've had at least 3 good chances at INTs tonight prior to pulling that one in.

I also agree Mason should be on this squad. Waiting to see Marko, and the Chase/Colt battle now.

That play by Brennan is what JC lacks. An instinct to get the ball out when the blitz comes.

Problem with a guy like Brennan is, he can't color between the lines. The 'coach in your head' inside the 10 yard line is saying only one thing. 'Don't make a mistake that costs us points'. Period. You can't do that - you can't go gunslinger inside the 10 when a FG is guaranteed. That's the kind of 'lack of judgment' that'll make up a coach's mind permanently.

That, IMO, is what gives Daniel an advantage, to me at least in the jockeying for the #3 QB slot-he thinks like a pro QB.

I agree, Boone. Aggressive mistakes at midfield are one thing. Down by the goal line, they're inexcusable. Twice in two weeks ... there's a good chance that play cost Colt Brennan his job.

Question is, how many of those INTs are you going to have to live with in order to enjoy one of those spectacular TD throws? I get the feeling Zorn is all about the trust factor.

Not to take anything away from Colt on that one. I think Brennan has more 'feel' for where to place a ball in his pinky than JC will have at the peak of his career. It's more a matter of whether he can learn to play without taking unnecessary, stupid risks.

Can somebody please tell me what happened on the 2nd to last play of the game just before the field goal to win it. I was sitting about 6 rows back and it clearly looked like the Redskins recovered a fumble. Of course live action is extremely fast but I could have sworn I saw the ball hit the ground before the runner's knee did.

It looked like it was a close enough call that would have warranted at least a review, but no review was given. I saw one replay on the "little" big screen in the stadium, but it was one angle.'

Can someone tell me if it wasn't a fumble, was it at least something that should have been reviewed?

I didnt read one lick of this thread but here is my take.

campbell looked great. he threw the ball where it needed to be and he threw it away when it needed to be. he needs to work the deep ball as shown by missing tana on a wide open bomb but that can happen. he overthrew him this time instead of not having enough arm.

running game...marcus mason? portis either called to be out of it or mason was just trying his ass off to make the roster because one was there and the other wasnt. portis wasnt even the back in the 1st when we rushed for a TD..odd. hope that was just choice and not cuz he hobbled off.

santana...dude you have mad skills. but you have suspect hands. why are you dropping the easy ones, bobbling them too but catching the one thats really difficult, over the CBs head and making the play.

cooley. why is he not there for most of the game but comes up with the big play? are they scheming him most of the time and he suddenly is open or is he just not running routes hard enough? when he is open though he is hard to bring down. funny too cuz he isnt fast, he isnt trucking people, he just makes them miss.

albert. my god i love you. 2 man crushes. 92 and 98. i will own your jerseys before long.

overall i think the skins did what they should have against a prolific team.

im hammered and going to end this

It was definitely a fumble ... what you couldn't hear apparently was the whistle the ref blew about a second before the snap giving Belichick the time out he'd been trying to call. It was close, but legit.

For what it’s worth, Portis told Kelli Johnson of Comcast Sports Net after the game that his rib(s) and knee were bruised on the first play but that the x-rays were negative. I haven’t seen the injuries show up in any news or injury reports so who knows how true his statement is. For everyone’s sake, I hope that Portis was just dogging it so that he didn’t have to play any more than was asked of him.

I agree that Mason impressed. I love the kid but wonder if there’s room on the roster for him.

the fade route to the corner to Kelly that he dropped...he turned his body back around for some reason. thats a jump ball dude; turn around to JC and just catch that ball.

Smoot wasnt the best player out of the CBs but I think he is better then Rogers right now. And I still hate that we are giving up the underneath plays. I get that Gregg Williams scheme and can appreciate it but when I see a CB 10-15 yards off the ball I have to get mad.

Our punter was BOOMING the heck out of the ball last night. It is about time daggone it and I loved seeing that.

Why was Devin Thomas returning kicks? Are we really trying to use our 2nd round WR now for special teams? that sucks!!

Albert is bringing an intensity and anger to that D that I love seeing!! he doesnt like being beaten, he doesnt like being scored on and I like seeing that!! Hall was eaten alive last night. Yeah it was Moss from Brady but still..he wasnt in the right position on that TD and he was getting beaten a lot.

funny how much more I remember the next day sober :)

Interesting game. Overall, I'd say we looked pretty good. Campbell looked better, seemed to find rhythm on occasion. Pleasantly surprised with the o-line as well. To be great, however, we need to cut down on penalties, catch passes, and hit receivers who are wide open 40 yards down field.

Agree with ya, Boone. I think Colt got extra reps to keep his job. Not sure how well he did.

Can't wait to see the pressure this defense is capable of bringing once the training wheels are off.

Devin Thomas is returning kicks because he is falling behind both Malcolm Kelly and Marko Mitchell as a wide receiver.

Right now Mitchell looks like the second round pick.

Interesting. Hall had a bad night to be sure but I did think he had the correct position on the TD throw.

Hall was right on top of him and Moss/Brady made a great play. Where should Hall have been on that play? I don't know of to many corners that would have stopped that......(but I could be wrong here).

I have been watching it all pre-season and I just can't help but think Marcus Mason is going to be caught up in a numbers crunch once again. I hope this kid is on the 53 man roster at the beginning of the season. I just have the feeling it is him or Marko Mitchell.

I watched him on TV, he looked great. Now after watching him live, I have to say at this point he looks like a better RB than Ladell Betts did all of last year and in this pre-season. And he is a lot quicker to the hole than I saw on TV.

This kid is a good running back and if he were given the same chance Betts was when CP went down, I bet he could run for 1200 yards as well.

He kind of reminds me of the old Giants RB Joe Morris.

not giving up all that ground on the inside. Moss had perfect inside position from Brady and Hall never had a chance to get anywhere near breaking up the play. If he was on the inside of Moss and pushed him towards the sidelines it would limit where the ball could be placed and he could have gotten to it easier.
