View Full Version : How does zone OL blocking work?
Having not played the game of football, there's are a number of topics that that I'd like to get better, more detailed knowledge of--among them is the mechanics of offensive line blocking schemes.
So I ask you BGO faithful, how exactly does zone blocking work?

instead of playing BoB Big on Big, you play OIL On, Inside, Linebacker.
now thats if you arent playing a lot of stretch plays because in a stretch you basically move the entire Oline towards the sideline, the running back reads the seams and makes one cut and goes upfield.
ZBS was more efffective when the rules against cutting werent enforced because the backside pursuit cuy would often get cut from behind by a TE or Fb, now that gets called.

It's fairly simple, each blocker blocks the first guy into their zone, instead of a predetermined defender, as you would with a non-ZBS line. You'll see a lot of flows (entire line moving laterally) and the running back finding the hole as it opens naturally instead of the O-line trying to force open a hole.
