Anyone? Anyone?

1) He's a Pro Bowl QB.
2) Our own starter had provided no evidence he could/would ever be 'the guy'.
3) He's a West Coast offense guy.
4) He's still got 5 years of potential football out there.
5) He was cheap (you may not like giving up picks, but for a QB with McNabb's skillset/pedigree, that was not a lot to give up).
6) Shanahan likely felt we couldn't get his QB of choice in this draft.

I think it was a reasonable decision although I'm not a huge McNabb fan.

Because Dan Snyder has made it his personal goal in life to not only piss you off, frustrate you and insult you but now he wants to sign players from other teams so they can help him do everything i just mentioned.

Hehehe...

If Sarge doesn't mark that 'Best Answer', I may have to :)

Shanahan and Allen didn't have faith in Campbell to run the WCO. McNabb knows this offense inside and out. They made an offer and suprisingly the Eagles dealth him to us.
Shanahan and Allen sent a message that they want to win now and be a consistent winner.

Sarge, look on the bright side...it wasn't Romo.

because they want to win and win now...not develop a QB. I would have preferred developing a young talent, but this option isn't half bad!

Jason Campbell inspired zero confidence as the starting QB?

I like Jason, and I sincerely wish him the best in Oaktown, but McNabb is an upgrade of epic proportion. We have our first proven franchise QB since I was a kid.

That....and like Mike said....Snyder hates you.

Yes, snyder hates me. For the next five years apparently

because Mike shannhan is a terrible judge of talent and thought that Mcnabbs stats meant he would a good fit in Mikes offence. Mike knew if he failed to win more games than last year his legacyu would be in doubt and with him neutering the defence, he needed a big play guy rather than a steady guy.

I heard on one of our local stations yesteday (I forget which) that there are rumors sprouting up at Redskin park that Snyder is very displeased with Shanahan and Allen and now expects more immediate results after this season's disaster.

I hope this isn't true. It is, after all, just a rumor.

However, it would explain why we picked up McNabb last year and why Shanahan suggested winning immediately was a realistic expectation. And it is something to keep in mind when watching what this team does this offseason. In my opinion I don't think it's ever been more obvious that a full rebuild is needed here, even though it was pretty darn obvious last year. If we STILL don't take that tack I will be very skeptical of claims that Snyder is doing nothing but signing checks.

I REALLY hope those rumors are false Henry. I think we all undestand that if those rumors are true, this team will never get out of the vicious cycle it is in as long as Snyder owns the team.

The question isn't if Snyder is involved in football decisions. It's if he's directing his coaches and front office to win and win now at all costs. If that is the case and Shanny is out of here after this season, we can forget about the Redskins ever returning to the glory they once were until Snyder is completely out of the picture.

We will starting seeing signs if those rumors are true or not this offseason. if we continue to trade away picks and bring in older, high priced free agents then we'll have our answer. If we hold on to our picks and maybe even add a pick or 2 then there's hope.

Exactly.

I hope the rumors are false too. I think I may be paying more attention to this offseason than I have since Gibbs returned.

It wouldn't surprise me a bit if it were true. Afterall, how do you explain when Gibbs/Bugel came back and didn't spend one draft pick on a lineman. Two men who built their teams on the line and who supposedly had "complete control" and never picked up anyone to build the lines

I don't buy it

Same here for Allen and Shanny. I'm more than certain the danny has his little dickskinners in here as well

You got a lot of coaches come back from hiatus in 2012 too. Gruden, Cower, Fisher and maybe Billick.

Shanahan has one more year to pull off a lot of improvement!

I have one more thought on this subject. If you guys could take the trade back... would you? We get back a 2nd round pick last year and we draft another piece of the OL or someone on the DL and we have Rex as our starter for the 2010 season. Would we be better or worse than 6-10?

So far we're seeing exactly what we have been hoping for. We're adding picks, taking solid players and staying away from reaching for players we think are going to be stars. You've made me a believer Shanny!
