Welcome to BGO, ladies and gentlemen.

To those of you who already know us, good to see you.

To those who have no idea who we are, or what you may be about to get yourselves into, our apologies.

And to all of you, please feel free to make your introductions here. Tell us as much or as little as you wish, and don't be shy about sharing how you came to your own burgundy and gold obsessions.

Hail, and well met.

Boone

You can read a little info about me in the 'About Us' section, but more important than the demographics, I'm a Redskin's fan, and I'm obsessed. They don't have a 12 step program for that, and if they did, I'd refuse to participate :) I hate Dallas, the Giants, the Eagles - hell, I still hate the CARDINALS - just because I can. I grew up in Northern Virginia and spent most of my life there. I don't know when my obsession with the Skins started, but every Sunday from September to January, the old black and white TV was tuned to the Redskins game. It didn't take long before I was hooked.

When Mark Steven (Om) and I first began talking about starting this site - the first question was 'why?'. What would we do that many other Redskins-related sites hadn't already done? The answer to that is more like trying to describe the smell of a really incredible steak on the grill, the look of a young girl walking along the surfline and tossing her hair on a Summer day, or the feeling you get watching Mark Brunell throw the 2nd TD in 5 minutes to defeat a hated rival on MNF - hard to put into words. But we wanted to create a place all of our own, where fellow Burgundy and Gold-obsessed fans of like mind and kindred spirit might gather, where discussions could be passionate, but generous and respectful too. We've seen glimpses of such a place before, and we wanted it back. So we decided the only way to achieve such a space on the interwebs was to build it ourselves. So we found a couple of other special guys to join us on the journey, and we got to work building our little corner of internet redskins-obsessed heaven.

'If you build it....they will come....'

We sure as hell hope so. Community, especially community engrossed and engaged in a like passion, can be a powerful and special thing. We hope to build and attract that special community here.

So that's my introduction. I'm a Dad, a son, a husband, a boss, a former Marine, a wannabe writer and blogger, a beermaker, and a cyclist.

And I am one obsessed Washington Redskin's fan.

It's damn good to meet you

Gents & Ladies!

Greetings, salutations and HAIL!

It's great to be here. Congratulations and Thanks you to all those that have made this site a reality - you've done a GREAT job setting it up!

As with most, I'm a born and bred Skins fan that was taught the words to Hail to the Redskins years before I really even understood what a football or touchdown actually was.

I'm a Soldier and I too share the obsession as evidenced by driving from the North Shore of Oahu to Honolulu at approx 0500 or 0600 (depending on mainland daylight savings) just to watch Norv win 3 games or illegally pilfering some comms gear in Afghanistan to watch a Browns Dolphins game just so I could keep track of the running scores across the top of the screen to keep updated on our beloved Burgandy and Gold! Kickoff for that game was about 0200 local!

I see old friends from other sites and am happy to know the quality of these postings and thoughts will be more important than the quantity! WOO HOO!

Having said that.........I'm out. Great to be here and thanks again to those responsible for pulling this all together!

Hail!
RLTW!

Great site guys.....nice to see some of the vets of the ES days current and past here. I am deeply, deeply hoping that the quality of BGO will be as great if not better (c'mon I know it will be:)) as the pre-merger days.

Hello everyone, some of you may know me from the other site, but for those that don't, I'm
a former resident of the DC area, now living in NW Georgia, I'm semi retired, work a bit when I feel like it. I sometimes work for a sporting event company, this year I worked at the Super Bowl and the Kentucky Derby. I have been to most of the major sporting events in the US at one time or another, it's a dream retirement job. For hobbies, I gold pan in the NW Georgia mountains, and I am also a woodcarver.

First off, welcome!

Second ... no, after much thought we decided not to have sig pics on BGO. We're pretty keen on the look and feel of the site, and are going to do our best to keep our graphics complementary and, or course, burgundy and gold. We also agreed that in our experience, sig pics can often start to overwhelm forums. We're hoping to make the content the real magic around here. Not saying it was an easy call---it wasn't. We spent a good batting around possible compromises. In the end, we went with the adage "less is more."

Longer answer than you were probably banking on, but there it is. :cool4::cool4:

What's up everyone!

I think everyone knows me, but here goes:

I moved to Arlington when I was 3 years old, and soon found the Redskins, and have been a fan ever since. I've been out of the area a lot since then - 4 years in AZ for middle school, 8 years in Florida and Hawaii for college, and now 6 months in Houston for work, potentially much longer term.

Anyway, the place looks phenomenal, and I'm excited to start fresh! :)

Hey everyone,
My name's Katie and I've been a 'Skins fan since they I was born, even though I was born, rasied, and still live in Cali. I didn't have a choice, it was either cheer for the 'Skins or live on the street... I was the best ultimatum I've ever been given ;)

My parents' grew up with season tickets to RFK. They went on lots of high school and college dates at the games. When they moved out west and had all their kids, they were determined to instill Redskins pride (or sickness) in all of us: it worked for 2/3 of us (my little sister doesn't really care about any sport).

Anyway, that's my 'Skins story. :)

By the way, nice work guys, I'm really excited about this site!

Thank you for the kind words... I suspect that I know you from a different user name?

How did I miss you?

Long time, no see Eric:)

Wonderful to see you here as well, Sarge! Cant wait to collaborate on some Obabanations with you :) l, I suspect we will have to be far more collegial here than on the old 'Tailgate'....(thank goodness)

Great to be among some old and new friends here, guys... Please dont take my likely lack of threads/replies here (and elsewhere) as a lack of interest or of time spent reading the great articles that you all write. Five kids 5 years old and younger take nearly all of my free time now... not to mention a surgical practice that is in the 90th %ile in productivity.

Looking forward to seeing how you all make this place into your vision of the worlds greatest Skins site, and I am honored to be one of the riders on your coaster!

BTW, great work on the site guys. I see lots of familiar faces and I'm sure some will recognize me.

Quick bio on me: I'm originally from WV, but I bounced around a lot as a kid (and as an adult) and I've moved between there, DC, VA & NC more times than I care to explain.

I've been a die-hard Skins fan since I was little and watching the games with my family on tv. I've been working in electronic publishing for various branches of science over the last few years, however I was just laid off last week, so I see another inevitable move in my future. I watch MMA and workout in a local MMA school to stay in shape and keep myself occupied when it's not Redskins-Season. I live with my girlfriend and golden retriever and like long walks off of short piers....that's about it!

Well, you should. :)

Told my dad and brother about it and even though they don't post much on other 'Skins sites, they are always reading through the threads, blogs, and articles and are thrilled they will be able to now come to a place with a little less "stuff" to wade through to get to the good information and discussion. ;)

Hey folks!

Don't be alarmed when this thread gets much briefer in a bit. It's great we've already got some friendly banter going - we're all about that. But our vision for the 'Introductions' thread was kind of a permanent footprint where all new members can enter, tell us all who they are, what they are about, introduce themselves, and have that as a permanent reference for anyone who follows and wants to know 'Who is this person called _______?'

So please don't be offended when I cull out your posts here in a bit, I'll be culling out a number of my own right along with them. We certainly won't do much post-editing going forward, but wanted to steer this thread back to its original intent quickly.

Btw, it's banter hour over in the Corner Pub (http://www.bgobsession.com/forumdisplay.php?f=6) and rumor is Om's buying. Last one in is a rotten egg :)

Oh yeah, I forgot to do my intro.

Became a Redskins fan in 1986. Neither of my parents were Skins fans. My dad doesn't follow football and my mom was a Baltimore Colts and Chargers fan (we moved a lot), although she really liked the Skins when she started to watch them. I became a Redskins fan b/c of how much of a community and how much love the Skins fans had for this team and the play and passion of the one and only Dexter Manley. When I played sandlot football as a kid I always imagined myself as Dexter hunting down a unlucky QB.

Had a chance to go to my first Skins game in 2001 (vs. Carolina, the Lavar INT game) and have been hooked with going to games ever since. 2004 was a great year for me as not only did St. Joe return to coaching but I became a season ticket holder.

And that year I got into football websites.........
I was reading Pro Football Talk and Mike Florio had posted this insanely funny cartoon about KW2 and the Poston Bros. by some guy named BANG. I wanted to watch some of his archives and it sent me to a Redskins site named ExtremeSkins. 12,000 + posts and 5 years later, here I am on another Redskins MB chatting with the same people that made ES so great years ago.

Last Dec. I took a long hiatus from posting on ES to start my own blog It Is What It Is..... and since then I've been trying to cover the Redskins in my own way along with other stuff that I find interesting (Comics, Movies, TV, whatever).

My deepest wish is to one day see FedEx have the atmosphere of RFK, to have 90,000 Redskins fans really get loud. I always saw RFK do that on TV and I want to be a part of that live one day. That's why you'll see me do threads about the 12th Man and us fans being the loudest fans in the NFL.

HI All,
I go by ljs on the "other board" ...thanks to a certain "big brother" I can now hang out here in a lil more peace and B/G obsession.

My Intro- never lived in DC, and a Redskins fan by miracle. We moved a lot when I was a kid, and I was originally from Washington State. In the early 80's, I became intrigued with football, and loved the Redskins...they were winning, they had cool colors and for some reason- I've always hated the Cowgirls. Oh, and I thought they were from my home state. No one bothered to tell me any different, and when I finally realized the difference between DC and the state- it was too late. So been a fan since I was about 7. (do the math that is 27 years).
Never been to a game in DC (hoping next season)..but have seen them 3 times in Seattle (92/08/09). I met John Riggins the year after he retired, I was young and he was really cool. The first Redskins game I went to in Seattle, senior year of highschool and I got field passes. I was just feet away from the greats like Monk, Green, Gibbs etc...4 rolls of film all came out blank cuz I loaded the film wrong. My only regret in life is not loading that camera correctly!

Glad to be here!

~Lori

Heyy y'all...I'm Katie, aka skinsgirl26 on ES. Slacky brought me over here (thanks honey!), but no worries we won't be hijacking too many threads :p I kid, I kid...

Anyway, for those of ya who don't know me: I'm 21 years old, born n raised in Rockville, MD. My Dad's entire side of the family are (/were, RIP Grammy, Grandad, & Uncle Don) diehard Skins fans. I've been goin to games since I can remember (I'll never forget bein a little girl on those thundering bleachers @ RFK). My aunt has had season tickets for 20+ years but has given them to me the past few years so I've been lucky enough to go to an amazing amount of games. The only thing I hate about goin to VT is being so far from the Skins, but I've managed to make it to a decent amount of games anyway (Skins >>> Monday classes, obviously). I'm so excited for this season and I'm plannin road trips to dallas and philly because their games fall exactly on my Thanksgiving break (that's gotta be a sign, right?) and of course Charlotte is only about 2 hours from Blacksburg so I'll definitely be down there....

I guess that's it for now, seeing as it's about 2:30 in the mornin. I'm so excited to be here, hello again to everyone, and I really can't wait for football season to start! Hail!

Glad to be here.

PS I hear the gentlemen who run this site are fairly respectable.:)

Some of you may know me,some may not but I remember what ES once was and have thought for the longest time that maybe I'd never get to experience that type of atmosphere again.

I think I may have just found out I'm wrong on that count.:)

I hope you guys/gals don't mind me lurking around here.

I've been a fan since I was 11 years old(1981) and wouldn't know what to do in the Fall without the Skins playing football. (hopefully a winning brand)

I thank the owners of this site and the current membership for allowing me to take a seat...whether it be at the bar or in the corner.

Hello all! Glad to be hear and thanks to Huly for the recommendation!!!

I can tell you that being a Redskins' fan was something I was born to be, but the first time I can remember being passionate about the Redskins was due to my father's vociferous outburst during the Cowgirls comeback on Thanksgiving Day in 1974.

The scene was my grandmother's kitchen as we were settling in for dinner. Unfortunately, dinner was ready about the same time Clint Longley was driving the Cowgirls down the field with little time left on the clock. My father, being the die hard Redskins fan that he is, decided to move my grandfather's brand new console TV into the doorway so we could watch during dinner, an action vehemently opposed by my grandfather who did not like anyone touching his TV, much less to watch a football game during dinner, Thanksgiving dinner at that. With much misgiving my grandfather agreed but only if the volume was turned off.

So we were all seated as my Uncle Floyd, one time Chief of Chaplains of the entire U.S. Armed Forces, began to say grace. As he was saying grace Clint Longley completed a pass to Drew Pearson, Pearson began to break away down the sideline and just as my uncle is in the middle of his prayer, my father stands up and screams, "GET THAT SON OF A *****!!!" Needless to say my mother's side of the family was aghast, but I could not help but smile. The Girls won that game 24-23 on that play but Dad taught me true obsession that Thanksgiving Day.

My father passed away in February of this year and he taught me many valuable lessons throughout my lifetime, but that day he instilled in me am obsession for Redskins' football I have carried with me ever since.

I am so glad to be a part of BGO. I told this story in ES a few years back , but I could find no better way to introduce myself here.

My name is Brian and I am obsessed with Washington Redskins football!

Hi all, seen Om's post over at nfluk.com and thought I'd take a wonder over to see what all the fuss was about.

My names Chris, use the name Chrisbob(74) on other forums including ES but also go by this username in a few places.

I'm 35, from Liverpool in the UK and have been a 'Skins fan since the age of 10 in 1984! I'm also just an NFL nut, love the sport and the soap opera that is the NFL, from it's rich history to its modern trends, it has tactics, power, aggression.....just a bit of everything.

I write for a UK based website (plug coming, apologies in advance to mods if this is out of order, they can remove though) called footballdiner.com (http://www.footballdiner.com/) which was set up by some friends of mine after the UK's only football magazine/newspaper (First Down) went out of business a few years back. You can find us on facebook and Twitter:)

Anyway, glad to be here and look forward to conversing with fellow Redskins fans! HTTR!

I moved to Ashburn from Oxford, UK in '96. We noticed that there was a football team already practicing in the neighborhood. It seemed like the logical one to support.

When we arrived the 'skins were 7-1 for the season. So, I guess everything is my fault.

When I got married for the first time back in the 80's we lived with a huge Dallas fan for about 6 months. I didn't care who they were playing I always rooted for the other team, he would get so pissed off that he had to leave the room.

Let me start by saying two simple words: Thank you.

I applaud the wonderful people who had the vision to get this thing started.

October 9th, 2003 was a beautiful day. It was the day I found a place called "Extremeskins." Right then and there, a then 23 year old, crazed Redskins fan from Ontario, Canada instantly felt like he was that much closer to the inner workings of the Redskins organization. Whether it was mini-camp, training camp, or the prep-work during the week before the big game on Sunday, I felt like I had inner access to my favourite team on Earth at last. More importantly, some of the very same people who I have found residing here at BGO helped me gain perspective not only as a fan of the Washington Redskins, but as a fan of the game of football.

However, what I will always remember most about the pre-merger days of "Extremeskins" was a group of people who made you feel like you were part of a community. Imagine that - we were hiding behind computer screens, but somehow felt like we were home. I remember the days where a guy from North Carolina was going out of his way to send classic Redskins games across borders to some random guy's mailbox in Ontario.

It was more than a bunch of Redskins fans talking football. It was people reaching out to one another. It was people showing sincere concern for one another. It was people showing the utmost respect for the differing opinions of others. It was a group of people who embodied what I would like to believe our society as a whole ultimately would want to aspire to achieve. That's what I loved about the early ES days, and this is why I'm so happy to have the opportunity to experience it again here at BGO.

The drive from Canada may have put plenty of kilometres on my tires (or should I say miles?) but it was well worth it.

I am home. :)

Hey brother - I really can't thank you enough for those words. I suppose if one were cynical, you could believe the creation of this site was some desperate attempt at 'one-upsmanship'. But that couldn't be further from the truth. Mark, Sol, Henry, and I had started another site, a kind of 'Tailgate' for intellectuals (not that any of us fit that description :)) called 'The Noosphere' (http://www.thenoosphere.com). We really had no intention of trying to create a football board. But creating the other site kind of lit a fire in us, and like you, reminded us of what an amazing thing a really close-knit community could be. We started with the simple idea of just helping Mark with a 'forum' attached to his 'Om Field' site. But before long, we got to thinking - why not go all the way and try to recreate something special. We all missed it, so why not make the attempt?

That's how BGO was born. At the risk of sounding arrogant - there's a lot to see and do here already - but the most exciting thing is the quality of people that are showing up. We're pretty committed to making this place about our members, about providing them with what it is THEY want from a redskins community, and not about the ownership or moderators.

I'm excited you found us - we've done almost zero marketing - we want this place to grow slow and steady, and with the right kinds of folks coming on board. You're another step in that direction. Thanks again for the truly kind words - that almost brought a tear to my eye.

Hello to everyone!

Since I'm new to this site I thought I would tell my story. I am not only a Redskins fan, but a fan of all levels of football. I grew up about 70 miles from DC and spent every fall weekend listening/watching Friday night high school football, Sat. college football (Shepherd University) and Sun. Redskins football. I remember listening to games on the radio after church, also, and hated when we had to leave the car to visit someone. Not allowed to stay in the car to listen. I also did not like it when my dad, 2 male cousins, a male family friend and my little 7 or 8 year old brother went to a preseason game without me. My brother didn't know what was going on but at 11 or 12 years old I knew about football and wanted to go soooo bad. I did however go to a high school championship game in Salem VA when I was 9. We won the game and we went down to greet my cousin and it was the first time I stepped on a football field. I remember that moment to this day. It was amazing! I wanted to play!

I continued my love of football in high school when I played powder puff football. We used helmets and shoulder pads and jerseys. Yes , it was tackle and boy was it fun! (I've wanted to play for the DC Divas but they are too far away) I then played intramural football in college for 3 years. By the way I'm a Hokie!

I love Hokie and Redskins football as well as my kids high school football. Football is one of the things that I think my husband really liked about me when we met. We could and still can carry on conversations about football even though I certainly don't have the wealth of knowledge he does. I hope we will always be able to share our love for all things football.

I was a member of ES but due to life (kids, work, etc.) I was not as much a part of that site as I would have liked. I plan to be more active here than I was there since kids have grown and it's a great diversion from the stresses of life even though the Skins seem to be adding stress these days. No matter what, I am always rooting them on.

I love the look of this site and can't wait to look and use more of what it has to offer. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I have been on this site for less than 24 hours. In that brief period I can already see that coming here (as opposed to going there (i.e, Extremeskins)) will be a much more judicious use of the internet in pursuit of the Washington Redskins. Just looking down the list of thread titles in the 'Sons of Washington' forum assures me that I have gone up the elevator several floors in terms of thoughtful and intelligent (but still impassioned) football discourse. Delving deeper and reading those threads informs me that the posters here are not just football eggheads, but personable, polite and respectable adults who are willing to discuss their points of view with respect for their challengers.

Thanks, gentlemen, for seeking to recapture what you lost, and for letting us in on it.

DocSandy here. Long time fan. Our family had season tickets at Griffith Stadium and a lot of my fondest memories come from going to games with my dad at RFK. I still have those tickets since his passing in 1972.

I'm 56 and have always and will be a burgundy and gold fan. I hate the offseason and cannot wait for the season to start. Win or lose, I enjoy football.

I now live in West Virginia in Steelers country and have my Redskin flag waving in front of my house. Anyone who knows me knows Redskins pretty much run my life during football season.

The Redskins (specifically Darrell Green #28) are the reason I met my husband... #28 holds special meaning... both in the fact we met because of #28, both of our birthdays are the 28th of the month, we started our honeymoon on the 28th, and, unfortunately, I buried him on the 28th of the month.

I could go on with memories, etc. I've gone to 2 SuperBowls (XVII and the XVIII debacle), and until this year could count on one hand the number of home games I've missed since my dad died.

Interesting up here.. I wear Redskins gear after every game (well, actually almost every day) and when walking my dog, after a loss, I'm asked by a particular neighbor if I'm wearing the right shirt/jacket. I say yes, of course. They're my team through thick and thin. Yes, things look thin right now. But it makes it all the more satisfying to know I've kept with them when they do turn it around, and I feel they will; maybe not this year, maybe so. But they will.

Anyway.. that's my intro. I may add more as discussions progress. Don't want to get too long winded here :)

THanks for the site, guys. It's great.

Yes, it’s a great place to live provided that you like the outdoors and can handle 6 months of winter.

I guess this site doesn’t allow custom Avatars. Too bad. I have my animated Groucho Bear that I really like. It’s in my profile.

This place seems to be very vibrant although I guess it’s only been around a few months.

Are most of the members ones that used to post at Extreme Skins?

I'd say it's about a 50-50 mix...we have a lot of friends here and at ES. We haven't promoted it over there, firstly because we think that would be in poor taste, but more because we think the two communities and where they're going are distinctly different.

'Vibrant' is nice though - and we're pretty happy with where the site has gone in just a few months...thanks for the kind words.

We do have a little different take on the use of 'avatars' - not to restrict member's freedom (that's definitely not a goal), but more to keep a certain look and feel to the place that's important to us. We'll keep an eye on member feedback on that topic though. Ultimately this place is about our members, not the mods or owners.

Glad you found us!

Well well.

I knew this place existed somewhere.

Not particularly well hidden if you really try to find it, and I'm glad I did.

I still have some allegiance to ES, even though the Stadium is an absolute cluster-**** at times, I have some friends there that I've really enjoyed "getting to know".

I am DarrellsMyHero28 on ES, so feel free to boo or cheer as appropriate :)

I'm a senior at Virginia Tech, so Blacksburg is my home for the immediate future but I'm from Springfield, VA and I was born in the great city of Washington, DC.

Being a native District of Colombian (if that's even a real term), I was raised a Skins fan and I have suffered through what seems like the worst times this franchise has been through. Being 21, I don't remember any of the Super Bowls and the best Redskins team I've ever seen was probably the 2005 team.

I'm still here, still a fan, still watch all the games and love the team...but for my own mental health I'm begging for a winning season.

I see some familiar faces, and some legends of ES that I never met because I hadn't joined yet.

Ut Prosim, welcome. I must admit a fascination with your handle. I'm assuming it comes from the VaTech Ut Prosim Society-but it's Latin for "That I may be of use" which intrigued me since mine "servumtuum" meaning "thy servant" comes from the Latin version of the Nunc Dimittis prayer.

Cool similarity.

Thanks brother and welcome to our little oasis

I am a geezer, but I grew up in Franconia, just down the road from you, in the 1960's-70's. I remember when there was nothing but a 2 lane road all the way from where we lived to Springfield. They built Springfield Mall when I was a teenager, and they've been building ever since. I can remember high times were when they'd bring the 'Super Slide' to the Giant Food parking lot in Springfield, and you paid $1 to ride as many times as you wanted down it on burlap sacks. Good times :)

Anyway, number of Hokies about here - and some of the enemy (myself included). Glad you're here and let us know if there's anything we can do to make the site more enjoyable. We have got a bunch of great members here, and even though the conversations are spirited, we're all friends here and we're pretty committed to keeping the conversational tone polite and friendly.

That is one translation.

Ut Prosim, as far as Virginia Tech is concerned, is our motto and can also be translated as "That I may serve" (pretty similar to yours). The Ut Prosim society is basically big dollar donors to Virginia Tech.

I'm planning on going to grad school and getting a certificate in Non-Profit Management, hopefully working in disaster relief. Tech's commitment to service is just one of the million things I love about this university, I've always done my best to commit to serving others, through Boy Scouts, my church etc.

I assume you've been back recently and seen the changes? Just in my 21 years its exploded population-wise and unfortunately is trending downhill. They're going to try to make Springfield Mall into a Reston Town Center type deal, we'll see how that goes...they just got approved a few months back.

From this, and your other handle I assume you're a UNC fan?

Well, I just posted this in the "welcome" thread, before I found this one, so I'll just do a little C&P.

Hi, I'm SonOfWashington (known in real life as DC), and I come from a long posting history over at ExtremeSkins (since March 2007) under the same name. I already recognize many of you, some of which I don't see anymore (BigMike I think I saw already).

For those of you who don't know me, I'm a 17 year old lifelong Skins fan from snowy northeast Ohio (aka Browns/Steelers country...Lord help me), and I'm probably one of the biggest around these here parts. I was born fifteen days before Super Bowl XXVI, and, well, you all know how this team has been since then. Sucks for me. =\

I'll try to stop over here from time to time in between my visits to ES. So consider this my self-welcome. =)

good to see you've made it over here. You'll see lots of familiar faces and those you dont know you will find are really cool too.

Hope to see you here contributing.
